Chairlift "Evident Utensil" 7 inch Release Date: January 8, 2008 (Kanine Records) "To call the act indie rock or synth pop is to miss entirely the richness and depth of its music." Westword "This Brooklyn-based threesome fishes the electro-laden 80's and the psychedelic acoustics of the '60's to 'update' their indie-folk. Originally from Boulder, Chairlift is fronted by...haunted vocals...and adorned with sweet synth keys." This Week in Denver "While tethered to a solid core of hook-laden, keyboard driven indie-rock, [the group] opens its arms wide to encampass stabs of psychedelia and winsomely quirky, oh-so-slight vocals which evoke Kate Bush as much as Regina Spektor. The young trio knows how to skirt the edge of pretension with out falling over, and makes a chirpy, joyously brainy noise in the process." The Onion
By the spring of 2007, the band was signed and pushed to start touring. The "Ditch Your Boyfriend Summer Vacation Tour" saw the band crisscrossing the country including a return to Colorado for what turned out to be a very welcome homecoming (see above). Colorado, however, wasn't the only place the trio were well received. The day after their LA gig at the Silverlake Lounge, Morning Becomes Eclectics' Nic Harcourt worked a cut from their "Daylight Savings" demo EP into his show. The trio is currently rerecording the EP and expanding it into their debut album due late spring 2008. The "Evident Utensil" 7 inch marks the first official release for Chairlift. Caroline confesses, Evident Utensil started off as a joke, a joke she started writing in the shower. We think it turned out to be a good one. LOL.
