The Rumble Strips "Alarm Clock EP" Release Date: November 27th, 2007 (Kanine Records) "Punk rock energy and tons of brass" Q Magazine "They have taken the brass sound that Dexys Midnight Runners packed away in their attic 20 years ago and injected it with enough fun, melody and soul to make it truly their own." Music Week "Having toured relentlessly round the UK for the past year, Charlie's rousing hymns to underdogs and the band's parping brass and rock'n'soul reverie finally seems to be creating ever-bigger waves." The Fly
The Alarm Clock EP out November 27th (Kanine Records) showcases their love of 50's rock'n'roll, Adam & The Ants, Queen and was self-described as, "Like playing Clash songs, but using brass instead." Oh yes, tons of "parping" brass (see British press links to the bottom left), saxophone by Tom Gorbutt & trumpet by Henry Clark to be exact. The official bio (found here) will fill you in on lead vocalist/guitar player Charlie Waller's inspiration to be in a band, and how he joined up with drummer Matthew Wheeler and his two aforementioned mates - all from Tavistock (um...near Exeter). The bio will fill you in on how The Rumble Strips came to put out a handful of singles in the UK on Fallout Records (home of The Fratellis), which led to recording their full-length album, now backed by Island, in LA with Tony Hoffer. So they've visited the US before, including one rowdy trip to SxSW (google it), and they excitedly return this November for a first tour (see dates on left). The EP will include six tracks, including the live favorite, "The Boys Are Back In Town," a Thin Lizzy cover. The physical CD will include the videos for Alarm Clock and Oh Creole. "The most joyful band we've heard all year" Elle UK "The band most likely to do a Kooks/Fratellis in 2007 by becoming the good-time-indie-rock outfit most people prefer to get drunk and act lairy to" Q Magazine "An unstoppable slew of urgent, high-stepping, pure white soul hits" DrownedinSound "When the Day-Glo dust settles, they'll be standing on top of the pile" NME |
